Kevin D. Lashlee, class of 2006 from Zahm HOUSE, is a Trooper with the Texas Highway Patrol, stationed in East Austin. He went to work for DPS in 2007 and has been on patrol for a little over 5 years. Prior to his return to Texas, he worked in medical software implementation in Madison, Wisconsin.
His duties with the Highway Patrol include criminal and traffic law enforcement, crash investigation, new officer field training, law enforcement course instruction, and emergency response duties. Outside of his routine duties, he is also a member of the DPS Critical Incident Response Peer Support Team, the DPS Honor Guard, the youth mentoring program through Austin Partners in Education, a guest speaker for the Austin area Mothers Against Drunk Driving, a Drug Recognition Expert, and a liaison between local law enforcement agencies and his own office.
Kevin is a trumpet player, a gun enthusiast who enjoys teaching safe and responsible gun ownership and use, a motorcycle weekend warrior, a lover of all things Texas and Notre Dame, and a terrible golfer. Kevin enjoys his work, as it is a roller coaster of sorts that allows him to see the best and worst in people as well as serve the people of the greatest state in America.
My greatest memory of Notre Dame is a toss-up. First, my semester abroad in the Dublin program was absolutely amazing. Second, my last night on campus after graduation was memorable. Some fellow Zahmbie seniors and I made our way to the main building and had our first “climb up the steps”, complete with some cheap champagne, cigars, and a little party at the top of the steps. Best way to finish off a great 4 years.
Kevin makes it to at least one game a year, usually in South Bend. Last year, he had the distinct pleasure of being there for the first and last games, from Dublin to Miami. Despite the terrible outcome in January, he is an incurable optimist when it comes to ND football. And he can’t wait for the UT – ND series to start up. Time to show these Longhorns what real football looks like!
Kevin is always asked what the best way to get out of a speeding ticket is. Short answer, have a valid medical excuse (and needing to go to the bathroom very badly is not a valid medical excuse), or be an avid hater of the Michigan Wolverines…that always works.
Kevin wants you all to remember the following: Drive Safe, Have Fun, and GO IRISH!
