Featured Alumna: Dolores Díaz

Dolores Diaz

Dolores Judith Díaz, c/o 2005, is an editor, playwright, drummer, and motorcycle enthusiast. In February, she began working full time for Austin Editing, which she officially established in 2010. Austin Editing provides quality editorial consulting services to companies, government agencies, and a wide range of public and private organizations and individuals throughout the Austin area and beyond.

Dolores says, “When I first conceived of Austin Editing it was with local businesses in mind – specifically small businesses looking for a professional set of eyes to review copy on an as-needed basis, especially those looking to win City of Austin project work. Smaller, locally owned businesses usually lack the resources or steady work necessary to hire detail-oriented QA professionals full time. What’s more, if you’re looking to win COA project work, it can be a challenge to identify businesses that meet the City’s Minority-Owned Business and Women-Owned Business requirements and difficult to clearly identify the best ways to parse out work to subconsultant players.”

Dolores’s latest project is editing and publishing plays for Teatro Vivo a premiere source forbilingual Latino theater in Austin. Keeping with the Irish tradition, her favorite play is The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh. Dolores loves theater, especially Austin fringe theater like The Rude Mechanicals and the work done at Hyde Park Theater. She drums for Shortwave Party, which you can catch at such venues as Cheer Up Charlie’s and Hotel Vegas on east 6th, and most recently had the honor of sharing the stage with Borrizocane for their CD release party at the Scottish Rite Theater on May 17th. Shortwave Party is currently finishing up their EP, but in the meantime you can snatch up their 7-inch vinyl at Waterloo records or check out their video on Vimeo.

Dolores also loves Cole Haan shoes, PTerry’s burgers, riding her bike to Vuka co-working space (where she operates out of), and living the Austin lifestyle in the Sasona cooperative with her 18 housemates.
