An Introduction from Professor Woodard:

Demystifying the World of Algorithms, Machine Learning and AI
Join Roger Woodard, Director of the Online Master’s in Data Science program at the University of Notre Dame, for an engaging session as he demystifies the world of algorithms, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI).

In this presentation designed for all audiences (you don’t have to know how to code to attend!), we will explore the foundational concepts behind these cutting-edge technologies.

We will break down the fundamental definitions, providing clear and accessible explanations of what algorithms, machine learning, and AI actually mean in today’s digital landscape. Then, we will explore how these technologies operate and interact with our daily lives in everything from what we see on social media to the route we take home.  We will also uncover how algorithms can reinforce societal biases to examine the ethical dilemmas posed by machine learning applications so that we can discuss the promise and pitfalls of AI-driven systems.

Whether you’re new to the topic or looking to deepen your understanding, this session promises to be an exploration into the heart of technology’s most transformative field.
