Ben Truskoski, class of X, is a retired professional and leads the ND Club of Austin’s Senior Alumni group. Ben and his wife moved to Austin in 2009 after 28 years in Milwaukee after they decided it was time to leave the cold winters behind them. He soon realized Austin’s superiority over other Texas cities like San Antonio and Houston and considers living in Austin the best part of his retirement experience thus far.
If you’re a Senior Alum, Ben wants YOU….to contact him. Ben has been hard at work to bring together the Senior Alums in the area. There are a lot of stories, time, and experiences to share within this group. What better way to support the University and her mission.
Ben was an Accounting major, and started his post-college career with General Electric’s Financial Management Program in Portsmouth, Virginia. Thirty six years later, following jobs in financial analysis, budgeting, production cost accounting and sales human resources, in Virginia and Wisconsin, Ben retired having worked for only one company his entire career.
One of Ben’s favorite memories from college was from a Public Speaking course he took as a Senior. The class was assigned to prepare a talk on hobbies. The professor led off with the statement “Everyone should have two hobbies” and continued with, “I have two hobbies. I collect string and I get drunk.” Despite having different interests, Ben appreciated his professor’s insight and has quoted his wisdom in numerous presentations over the years. Its a small thing but illustrates the kind of place ND is. Caring, realistic and a place where we can all keep things in perspective.
